- Wie hilft mir das Script?
- Es
analysiert das System nach Netzwerkkonfigurationsfehlern und liefert
Fehlermeldungen mit Links auf Webseiten, wo Du nachlesen kannst, wie Du
selbst die Fehler beseitigen kannst. Falls das nicht gelingt können die gesammelten Informationen in einem Forum gepostet werden und liefern gleich den Helfern die wichtigsten Netzwerkinformationen an die Hand. Diese können dann sofort eine Lösung angeben oder aber dann gezielt weitere Informationen nachfragen.
- Was hilft mir das wenn ich den Fehler trotzdem nicht beseitigen kann?
- Das Skript sammelt alle wichtigen Netzwerkinformationen in
einer Datei. Diese Informationen ermöglichen es Netzwerkprofis relativ
schnell herauszufinden, was falsch koniguriert ist und können
dementsprechend Tips geben.
- Wie und wo sollte ich die Ergebnisse posten?
- Es gibt zwei Möglichkeiten. Entweder den Inhalt von collectNWData.out auf irgendwelchen öffentlichen Webseiten im Internet posten und dann den Link in einem Linux Forum posten.
Alternativ kann auch der Inhalt direkt im Forum gepostet werden. Da der
Inhalt über mehrere Seiten geht ist dieses in manchen Foren nicht gerne
gesehen.
- Welche Dinge macht das Script auf meinem System?
- Es werden alle möglichen Informationen zum Netzwerk gesammelt. Änderungen finden nicht auf dem System statt.
- Warum sollte das Script mit root Berechtigungen ausgeführt werden?
- Es
gibt sehr viele Befehle, die wichige Netzwerkinformationen sammeln und
die nur als root ausgeführt werden dürfen. Das Script fragt automatisch
ob es als root ausgeführt werden soll. Wird diese Frage mit nein beantwortet werden gewisse Fehleranalysechecks übersprungen und gewisse NetzwerkkonfigurationsInformationen nicht gesammelt. Siehe auch hier .
- Kann das Script mein System wenn es als root läuft zerstören?
- Nein - auf keine Fall.
Selbst nicht wenn Fehler im Skript auftreten. Es werden keine Aktionen
vorgenommen, die irgendetwas auf dem System ändern.
- Welche Distributionen unterstützt das Script?
- Es
ist primär für SuSE konzipiert. Es läuft aber auch auf vielen anderen
Linuxdistributionen wie Ubuntu, Knoppix, Mint, Fedora, Slackware, Arch, CentOS ... Allerdings kann es sein dass manche Informationen
bzw Analysen fehlen da sie SuSE spezifisch sind.
- Was muß ich tun um das Script um weitere Features erweitern zu lassen?
- Es gibt mehrere Möglichkeiten: Entweder über den Kontakt Button mit dem Author Kontakt aufnehmen und ihm schildern welche Netzwerkinformationen noch fehlen oder wie man weitere häufigeKonfigurationsprobleme per Script entdecken kann. Oder aber das Script direkt ändern und das geänderte Script dem Author zukommen lassen. Allerdings sollte vorher die Änderung mit dem Author angesprochen werden.
- Why should I use this script?
- It's
analyzing your system for network configuration problems and creates
error messages which have links to websites, which explain how to get
rid of the problem. That's how you can fix the problems on your own. If you can't fix the problem these information can be posted in a forum such that people get the most important network configuration information. EIther thy can give an answer immediately or they can ask for specific information.
- But I don't get my problems fixed with these error messages. What should I do?
- All
network informations are combined in one output file. The information
of this file will enable network gurus to quickly identify the source
of your network problem so they are able to tell you what to do in
order to get your network problem fixed.
- How should I post the results and where?
- There are two possibilities: Either you post the contents of collectNWData.out on public websites in the internet and then post the link in ony of your favorite Linux foren.
Or you post the contents of the file directly in your favorite Linux forum. Pls check the forum rules for this.
- What's the script doing on my system?
- A lot of commands are executed to query network informations. No changes are done on your system.
- Why should I execute the script as root?
- A lot of inspection commands have to be executed as root. The script also can be invoked as a normal user but then the number of problemanalysis checks is reduced in addition to the number of networkconfiguration information. See also here .
- Is there any way to get a corrupted system by the script?
- No - never.
Even if there is a programming error in the script. There are no
commands used which modify the system in any way.
- Which distributions are supported?
- It's
initial target distribution was openSuSE. But now it also runs on other
distributions like Ubuntu, Knoppix, Mint, Fedora, Slackware, Arch, CentOS .... There will be some information or analysis missing which is specific for openSuSE.
- How do I get new features included in the script?
- You have multiple choice: Either contact the author and explain which network information you're missing or how additional common network configuration probelms can be detected by the script. Or change the script and send it to the author. But get in contact with the author before to discuss your changes.
